Garmin Edge 1030 Specs
* BATTERY: 20 hours battery
* WEIGHT: 123g weight – This is heavier than the Edge 1000 which is 114g
* SCREEN: 3.5 inch Touchscreen
* TRENDLINE POPULARITY ROUTING: Uses billions of miles of Garmin Connect ride data to show you the best on- and off-road routes traveled by cyclists.
* RIDER-TO-RIDER MESSAGING: Rider-to-rider messaging lets you send prewritten notes from your Edge 1030 to other riders’ Edge devices. Let your friends know if you’ll catch up in a few minutes or if they should go on without you.
* NEW SMART CONNECTIVITY: Respond to missed phone calls or texts with prewritten messages4 such as “be home soon.†Give your friends and family — even your fellow riders — peace of mind by letting them follow your rides in real time with LiveTrack and GroupTrack2.
* GARMIN CYCLE MAPS AND ALERTS: Edge 1030 is preloaded with maps and includes turn-by-turn navigation and new navigation alerts that notify you of upcoming sharp turns.
* LONGER BATTERY LIFE: Your Edge battery should outlast your ride, not the other way around. With Edge 1030, get up to 20 hours of power, and if that’s not enough, add up to 24 more with the optional extended battery pack.
* STRAVA LIVE SEGMENTS: Race virtually against your Strava friends with second-by-second comparisons, and see how your effort compares to your PR. The new segment explore alerts you to a nearby iconic segment.
* NEW PRELOADED STRAVA ROUTES CIQ APP: The starred routes automatically sync to your Edge so you can navigate and compete on your favorite segments at the same time.

    I have read many reviews, watching many videos on this and other bike computers, in the end I ordered the Wahoo Elemnt, overall it has better reviews and has a better price per quality and what it offers ratio.

    Hi all,

    I am in doubt whether to buy the new
    1030 or hold my old 820. Navigation on screen is smaller on my 820 but I
    like the design better. The new functionalities are interesting but not
    totally needed imo. Lots are talking good about the garmin 1030 like here https://www.wielrenner.eu/fietsnavigatie/garmin-edge/1030-review/ but. They do mention the 'to high' price. Would be great to get you opinion!

    THanks.

    HI, at 0:51 there was something about being "More mountain bike friendly than ever before." Is that just in reference to the navigation and better notifications for sharp turns?

    Not sure if it's the same as the 820 (Which I have) but mine didn't work at all with my winter gloves but after playing around with it I found a setting in display called sensitivity and that fixed the problem. Default is set to medium so just switch it to sensitive. Albeit still a little laggy but works non the less so give it a try if you haven't already. Hope this helps!

    I received my EDGE 1030 two weeks ago. This is what I did and observed on this device. First thing I did was to update the firmware to 3.40.As you mentioned the setup was easy since I had the EDGE 1000 and the setup is very similar.
    "Well built unit". Not so sure ,although it is 7 grams lighter than its predecessor. Don't understand given it has a larger capacity battery.
    "Setup is easy" True. If you have an EGE 1000 to compare it too. The EDGE 1030 does have more "sub" menus that can be confusing.
    "Screen is big and Bright". Yes it is. The colors do look somewhat faded.
    "Menus clear and crisp". Clear yes. Crisp. Not as sharp as the EDGE 1000.
    "TRENDLINE & Strava routing work well". Don't know. I haven't tried it.
    "Screen Not as responsive" I must disagree. I find this device faster than the EDGE 1000. Must be the firmware update.
    "NOT great with gloves". Don't know. The colder weather has not reached us. Yet. To find out.
    "Software is laggy" Not really. Although the device did take longer to load a course.
    "CRASHING often". The devise has never crashed.Must be the firmware update.
    "Elevation data seems to be out". I did not see any discrepancy compared with the EDGE 1000.
    So there you have it. OH. Almost forgot.
    "INCIDENT DETECTION". Setup was easy. But is was much to sensitive. I found that with "heavy breaking" the device would go into alarm. I think the user should be allowed to adjust this feature. But I do like it.

    Thank You

    If I was in the market for a large GPS unit, I would probably wait to see some initial reviews of the new Hammerhead before buying Edge 1030.

    Any chance in the full review you can show maps and how that works on/with MTB? I'm not a roadie so is it worth it for routes off road?

    Great job, John. And also am liking that your production quality is improving with every video. It's a race to 2K! 😉 STILL have to received my 1030 but I'm plenty busy anyways.

    Nice review, you would have thought Garmin could offer some sort of built in dash cam and at the same time update their rear radar system to incorporate a rear dash cam, just a thought?
