▬ ABOUT THIS VIDEO ▬
Ecobee4 vs Nest Comparison Review – Which Is The Best Smart Thermostat?! We put two of the best WiFi thermostats to the test in this Nest vs ecobee4 thermostat comparison. Both thermostats have their own advantages and shortcoming. The ecobee4 has an Amazon Alexa speaker built-in and you can ask it questions and have it play music just as you would an Echo or Echo Dot. It also comes with a remote sensor so you can monitor certain hot or cold rooms. The ecobee4 wifi thermostat also works with Apple HomeKit. Nest on the other hand is a learning thermostat. It basically programs itself so you don’t have to. It also has the ecobee4 beat when it comes to price and geofencing features. Overall, we are big fans of each thermostat. Both belong on the list for Best Thermostat 2018 or Best Smart WiFi Thermostat 2018. Hope you enjoyed this ecobee vs Nest thermostat comparison.

Ecobee can controls your humidifier, which is why I bought this for.
Ecobee reads temperature about 10 degree greater than true temperature, however you can offset your temperature reading by 10 degree by plus or minus.

I am looking for a thermostat that works with smart registers to control zones. I can find one or the other but not combined systems.

Been using the Nest for over 2 yrs with Google Home. I’ve checked the EcoBee before and found limitations on Alexa itself. Overall, happy with Nest, even with its limited list of partners that it works with. I am expecting it to grow in the next 12 months. hopefully. Thanks!

I am a second generation A/C guy growing up in my dad's shadow and I got to see the modernization of smart thermostats. In my opinion the Ecobee beats the Nest like a red headed stepchild in features, programmability, and integration.

Can you turn off the learning function of Nest? I can see that adjusting my temp when i don't want it to.

Can you disable Alexa on Ecobee? I have echo dots all over my house. I don't need my thermostat activating when my dot does. Changing the activation word of my echos would work. But not something i want to do. If you can change the activation word of the thermostat I guess that would work. But if you can disable alexa on the thermostat can i still use all my other echoes to control it?

Nevermind. The ecobee3 is the one im looking at. On sale for $138. Doesnt look like alexa is built in

Who keeps adjusting the temperature so much that a "smart" thermostat is even needed? My thermostat is set at 70 ALL winter, never changes.

My feedback to ecobee after they dumped my request for support with a non-functioning unit; pls read below'
are you kidding me???? I reached out to you regarding a non-functioning unit. You reply to me on a Saturday with a contact number that is only good Mon thru Friday. And less than 27 hours later on a SUNDAY you mark this as solved and closed??? when I haven't even had a chance to contact your support number

I am not feeling valued as a customer right now. I am feeling disrespected.

I should have bought the Honeywell (known brand and reputation) to begin with. that's what I will be buying this evening as a replacement

wow. I had much higher expectations from you than this

I am looking at usage in some apartments that I own. I am thinking Nest would be better because some tenants are not super "tech" guys and the Nest learns all by itself. Which do you think would be best for a few apartments if you owned them?

For our home, the remote sensor was the feature we really needed because the bedroom would have such a temperature difference than the living room where the thermostat is installed. We set up the Ecobee4 to use the bedroom temperature sensor by itself from 10:30pm to 6:30am. The rest of the day, only the temperature sensor inside the Ecobee is used. You also have the option to average the 2 sensors.

Smart thermostat but not so smart. Just find out my ecobee4 can't adjust itself with the correct daylight saving times. There is no options to change it on the android app or on the device. I have to send an email to support for it? Ridiculous!

My house has two thermostats for controlling temperatures for upstairs and downstairs. Will I need to purchase two separate Nests/Ecobees to control upstairs and downstairs, or just one to control both?

Do either EcoBee or Nest allow throwing smart fans into the mix? So for example, rather than immediately turn the HVAC ON, turn the fans ON first and optimize electricity consumption?

Will these work without an app? I bought a PIVOT camera and it requires an app, and I'll never buy another. POS…
constantly annoying. Making your home systems reliant on WIFI seems not very intelligent, overall.

It's obvious you're not a "thermostat person" if such exists, and if it does, that would most likely be me :)… You talk about the thermostat as a gadget, but when it comes to doing it's job, you mention that the Ecobee will take care of your entire home due to it's mini bees… Well, in a perfect world it's as simple as you mention it, but on planet Earth and more so, in the USA (the rest of the world used completely different heating/cooling systems…), things are a little bit more complicated… You see, in order to get your whole home to be custom heated or cooled, you need the original design of your duct-work to be designed for something which is called ZONING. Unless you do have zoning, you will not be able to reach that grade of comfort with neither, the Nest, nor the Ecobee, even with 100 mini bees. Now let me explain from a home designer and engineer's perspective, what the benefits of the mini bees are. You will be able to take control of the temperature of your home at the "point of use" and that is possible ONLY one at a time. Basically you could have one mini bee and take it with you wherever you go in your home and the temperature will be adjusted for the desired value where the mini bee is. If you don't want to remove it from a certain location, you can have as many as you want/need, but only one at a time will trigger "mama bee" to start or stop your furnace/ac. That's how it works… Yes, you can check remotely the temperature from outside your home, town or country and you can also remotely change the preferred (the one who actually is in charge) mini bee, but that's about it. Neither, Nest nor Ecobee are capable to control a zoning device, if you happen to have one in place; those devices are usually not sold in stores, but in the supply system of the HVAC professionals. I happen to have used the Nest since it came-out, switched to Ecobee + one mini bee and now I went whole home ductless. This is in place in EU and Asia for ages, but for US is relatively new and now it's a boom on this technology… 2018 ductless models are native (some of them) equipped with wi-fi and allow you to have organic whole home control from wherever on the planet. Neither, Nest nor Eco bee do work in conjunction with ductless whole home. This being said, both are gadgets with limited functionality. Cheers!

    Updates:
Not sure because of Southern California cooling off in September 2018 or not …but in August (without Ecobee4) I paid $541 electric bill, this September (with Ecobee 4 installed, sensor set in the coolest room so it would not run often) I have a bill of $200…

Previously, the HVAC with Honeywell battery operated installed in hallway and ran non-stop while temp set at 80 in August (caused $541 bill). I installed the Ecobee 4 right where I took off the honeywell thermostat, and set HVAC runs base off the remote sensor in the coolest room and Overcool 2 degree, Dehumdify at 55%…TA DA it's $200 bill this month (could be September cooling off too but much better than $541 bill).

I noticed that Ecobee can tell the HVAC compressor shut off and the blower fan continues running to push left over cooled air out for like 1-2 minutes after the compressor stopped,,,that it is big advantage of saving!! The Honeywell thermostat can NEVER do that!

This is only worry 2 cents my opinion. I have the ecobee light with two sensors. The price with two sensors is about the price 230 to 240. The price of the ecobee 4 with two sensors will be about 300, depending where you get it. I have echo original and a couple echo dots and getting a couple more. No need for ecobee 4 no real benefit in a house. Besides echo dots can offer more and you can place it almost anywhere. The sensors are the key to comfort and savings on energy. If you already have echos save yourself some money and get the ecobee light and two sensors and add sensors in time.
