— Best Teleprompter App for Android —

Look in any serious news room or production studio, and a teleprompter will be front and center. Why? Because it can make your job on camera SO much easier.

And these days you don’t even NEED any additional gear outside your smartphone or tablet! There are some great apps on both Android and iOS that will let you shoot video AND use your device as a teleprompter at the same time…

While a proper studio setup definitely has its advantages, like the tablet teleprompter I use in my studio (https://amzn.to/2JfWjC8), the apps are a surprisingly powerful option when you’re on the go and want an autocue, or you just don’t have access to a larger teleprompter.

Now, there’s a lot of app options out there, so which is the best autocue or teleprompter app for you? We’re going to dive into my top pick after testing a TON of options, and look at WHY it’s so powerful.

The app really looks great but the play button doesn't work. I've seen more people say that on Google Play page. Could it be a problem with Motorola phones?

i have a quick question about the closed captions I see on your video. Does that mean you don't have to add subtitles to your video during production anymore? Or is it better to have both?

Hi! Thanks for the info on a potentially great app. I'm using Galaxy Note 9 and I can't get the widget to move. Also I can't seem to use it with my native video recorder. I've sent out a note to oratory several days ago but haven't heard anything yet. Do you happen to have any info that might help me figure this out? Thanks in advance!

Did you use the teleprompter app for making this video, or were you speaking extemporaneously?

This only a good choice if one is using their phone as their vlog camera. If you tested several, which is best for use with a mirror in front of a real camera? One that reverses text and most importantly… opens text files… NOT copy and paste.

Hmm, now I look at my phone again…. more options have arrived (they weren't there before!) and it seems like I may be able to work this Oratary thing after all… still instructions would be good!

Sounds like a great app BUT where are the instructions? Can't understand why the app developer would write an app and then not make it clear to everyone how to actually use it. VERY frustrating. If there are any instructions out there please point me and like, towards them! Thx

Doesn't work with LG V30 phones. The camera on this phone is fantastic. Its has full manual settings and controls. Doesn't need an app to be the camera. This app doesn't (currently) support landscape mode. When widget is displayed on top of the front facing LG V30 camera screen it will not rotate to landscape mode.

Following your recommendation I download the app BUT can't find any instructions on how to use it! You mentioned it works with FB Live (and almost any other app) but I don't see those options anywhere… [EDIT: Doh, I finally worked out how to use it – deceptively simple actually. After loading your text, simply hit 'RUN' and it shows as a window over whatever you're using] Works like a charm – great recommendation!

No option to mirror the text for when you're using an actual camera and want to reflect it off a piece of glass in front of the lens, and if I want it full screen, it only does it in portait mode. huh?

Hi Justin, I wanted to point out that in your video at https://youtu.be/C7H8yzQU8gs?t=7m30s you make a very useful point of written text compared to spoken words. I think it is a very useful tip. Thanks for making this video and sharing with us. What about when presenters go Ad Lib? How would the prompter app know this and bring back the presenter onto the topic?

Thanks Justin. Awesome info! I never used a teleprompter before(we didn't even have smartphones and tablets then) ☺ I just typed what I wanted to say in Word, and hung the printed sheets beside the monitor. Of course I was doing screen captures at the time. I'll have to give Oratory a try for my new tutorials. 👍👍
