    On Linux Mint/Ubuntu, screen capture only works if vlc-plugin-access-extra is installed …

    really all you need is any program that will grab the server link for a video Download helper browser addon is what i use Play the video then click the icon then hit the arrow at the end of the file name click detail gives all video info including link copy paste into browser then save as works everywhere

    You can watch your Digital/Analog TV channels (DVB-T/T2) if you have TV tuner (RTL-SDR or other receiver) connected to your PC. : Capture device-> TV Digital/Analog … But you should know frequency. On linux you can scan TV channels with W_Scan.
    The one thing VLC can't do – save current video play position. It works sometimes, and sometimes it doesn't…

    You also forgot to mention that VLC can be set as remote music player via android app so you can browse and play videos and music from your phone using your pc connected to same network at your home

    Had Adobe CS6 Suite on my old laptop that i don't use that mush these days. Though had to use it to convert flac files to mp3 on Audition. Good to know VLC can do exactly that without much hassle.

    i tried to record my windows desktop but got this error

    Your input can't be opened:
    VLC is unable to open the MRL 'screen://'. Check the log for details.

    Really great tutorial, thank you. Could you consider doing the same for the Android VLC player? It seems to have very much a subset of Windows and, if such a thing were possible, is even less intuitive 🙂
